Apparently, the
public did not share Smrt’s enamored view of the shire horse,
because the park would only last for one full season. It would
reopen briefly in 1991, but not for long, and would never
open again. Smrt would later maintain, "Our experience
taught us that Shireland requires a full-time, year-round staff,
and until such time as one is in place, the park will remain
closed". And closed it has stayed to this very day.

Ed Note: You would tend
to wonder exactly where Smrt sought this "full-time,
year-round staff". He must be looking in the wrong
place, because the park has been closed since 1991.
